To kick us off, we thought we would start with Ashley Kempa, who served on our first-ever National Youth Advisory Board and is still currently involved by serving on our Board of Directors. She also helped coordinate the 2014-2015 National Youth Advisory Board.
Your Name: Ashley Kempa
Location: Philadelphia, PA
NYAB Term(s): 2007-2008; 2008-2009
Update us! What has happened to you since you last served on the NYAB?In 2009, at the end of my second term on the NYAB, myself and Melissa Daigneault were elected to serve on the Board of Directors for Souper Bowl of Caring. I graduated high school and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania to pursue a Marketing degree with an English minor. After graduating in 2013, I began my career in the health insurance industry working as an Analyst for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Today, I am still working for Gallagher and finishing my 6th and final year on the Board of Directors for Souper Bowl of Caring.
What are you doing now?I work in the corporate consulting world now and enjoy serving those in my community in my free time! I spend a lot of time helping plan programs for my church's youth group which often include efforts to fight hunger and poverty in our community. I'm also currently planning my wedding to my fiancé Zack Kempa which will take place on 9/24/16!
How would you say serving on the NYAB influenced your life?Without NYAB, I would not be the strong, confident woman I am today. NYAB has taught me to fight for what I believe in and not let my age get in the way of making a difference in our world. NYAB has given me my voice to truly make a change not only in my community, but across the country.
Anything you would like to tell future NYAB members?Apply to NYAB and if accepted into the program, give it your all! In such a short amount of time, you will be given so many opportunities and make life-long friends. Let your passion guide you through the year and never give up fighting hunger and poverty in your community.
Final thoughts?Souper Bowl of Caring is like no other organization. The amount of passion, hope and persistence participants bring to the table each and every year provides an overwhelming sense of encouragement. Take part in this youth initiative and bring this encouragement to your community.
Thank you, Ashley Kempa! We are so honored that you have been a part of our team for so long.
