Souper Bowl of Caring generates collections for over 5,000 receiving charities nationwide. Every dollar and food item donated fuels programs and services of organizations committed to tackling hunger. The Galveston County Food Bank is one organization making a play against hunger.
Did you know that in Galveston County 51,460 residents live in poverty and face the threat of hunger daily? 17,370 of those individuals are children 17 years of age or younger. The Galveston County Food Bank has one simple mission: to feed and to improve access to nutritional food for those facing food insecurity throughout Galveston County.
Executive Director of the Galveston County Food Bank, Twila Lindblade notes, "In addition to receiving and distributing donated and purchased food, we manage four main feeding programs. The Client Choice Food Mart, Children's Nutritional Outreach, Mobile Food Distribution, and Homebound Nutritional Pack are each unique programs that serve vulnerable populations in Galveston County." Last year, the Galveston County Food Bank distributed over 5.7 million pounds of food through the main feeding programs, direct distributions, and 56 agency partners. That equates to 4.75 million nutritious meals throughout the year!
You can help change the game in Galveston County by joining Souper Bowl of Caring and hosting your own food drive or collection to benefit the Galveston County Food Bank or another agency of your choice.
