Every year, Souper Bowl of Caring selects a group of high school students to serve on the National Youth Advisory Board to carry out the mission of Souper Bowl of Caring in their communities and across the country. This past year, we were lucky enough to accept 13 inspiring members who were enthusiastic and a group of go-getters.
Our members were sophomores through seniors in high school and lived anywhere between New Jersey and Phoenix. The group attended two National Youth Advisory Board conferences in July and November, where they bonded, learned more about hunger and poverty and how to carry out the mission of Souper Bowl of Caring once the conferences were over.
Their service over the past year has done great things for Souper Bowl of Caring. National Youth Advisory Board Member, Elizabeth Moran was recognized by her church and community for her awesome work. She recruited multiple community businesses to the team, explaining to them how her National Youth Advisory Board experience taught her that anyone can make a difference. Through her efforts, over 1,250 in cash and food items was donated to the Chester Food Pantry.
The National Youth Advisory Board was also led by three mentors: Sarah Kate Thomas, Jonathan Simmons and Ryan James. These members served on the 2014-2015 National Youth Advisory Board and were able to provide insight to new members.
National Youth Advisory Board is an opportunity to get our youth involved in the largest way possible. We encourage students to raise awareness about important issues and share with fellow classmates, church members, family and friends.
Every year we are thankful for our members and appreciate the work and service they provided us. Well done National Youth Advisory Board; we are extremely proud of you all!
