What made you want to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring Local Youth Advisory Board?I first wanted to participate in Souper Bowl of Caring after observing my older sister, Christine Huang, join and participate with Souper Bowl of Caring's Local Youth Advisory Board. When I became old enough to apply for the Local Youth Advisory Board, I felt strongly connected to their mission statement of working together in a united movement to tackle hunger and provide support for our community. I automatically knew that I aspired to partake in the organization that has been making a change since 1990.
What has been your most memorable Souper Bowl of Caring experience? My most memorable Souper Bowl of Caring experience was the opportunity to voice the mission and vision of the Souper Bowl of Caring organization and their Local Youth Advisory Board to the public through the FOX 26 Asian Connection Interview. I, along with my older sister, were able to express the importance in getting involved and participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement.
How was that experience meaningful to you?Being given the opportunity to be interviewed on FOX 26 Asian Connection means that I was able to use my voice to represent the youth involved with Souper Bowl of Caring. As an ambassador to this movement, I encouraged and educated others to unite together to support individuals and families within our own communities. I was also able to educate the public about the need and about the alarming statistics of individuals and families experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. This experience gave me a new perspective on how to spread the word about the Souper Bowl of Caring movement and how to utilize media and technology to educate and encourage others to participate. The Souper Bowl of Caring experience in general gave me a new perspective on the amount of people who are in need, and showed me that the average person and large companies alike can help to make a difference in our nation together.
Why would you recommend the Souper Bowl of Caring experience to others?I would completely recommend the Souper Bowl of Caring experience to others because it is an amazing opportunity to support and work together as a community in order to achieve the common mission of caring for those in poverty, hunger, and homelessness. In addition, the Souper Bowl of Caring experience allows for you to lead the community yourself in collecting food and money to be donated to the charity of your choice. By joining the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign, you are producing hope for individuals who are struggling and decreasing the amount of issues in our communities.
What have you learned through Souper Bowl of Caring?I have learned the alarming rate of Americans who unfortunately face struggles such as poverty, hunger and homelessness. But I've also learned the many ways I can contribute to tackle those issues in our communities. I have learned I can utilize my voice to represent youth to further educate and encourage others to participate in the collection to help end hunger.
What does it mean to be a youth ambassador for the organization?Being a youth ambassador for the Souper Bowl of Caring organization means being able to educate others in your community about the importance of supporting individuals and families who are in need. Through service work, leadership and engaging your spheres of influence, you can make an impact.
Do you think it is important to continue to serve as an ambassador? It is very important to continue to serve as an ambassador because we must continue to educate others of the importance of giving back. Serving others allows Souper Bowl of Caring to move a step forward in the battle against hunger and poverty in our own communities and across the country. By serving through Souper Bowl of Caring, we are giving back hope to those in need.
Why is it important for people to hear your story? It is important for others to hear my story because hopefully it will encourage more people to join Souper Bowl of Caring in an effort to tackle hunger and poverty through donations, service work, and being their own ambassador and leader in their own communities.
