Thanks for your 13 years of service and for bringing creativity to your Souper Bowl of Caring collections!
How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring?I participated in the Souper Bowl when I was a teen and I think that it's a great organization that empowers young people to make a difference in their community.
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team?By tying food collection into such a well-known event, like the Super Bowl, people are easily reminded to bring food and monetary donations. By being part of the Souper Bowl team we are able to go more good in the world and make a greater difference in ending hunger!
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? Our group always collects non-perishable food items and money for Boyertown Multi-service. This year we added a new project - we decorated brown paper lunch bags with bright colors and uplifting sayings and Multi-service used those bags to pack up the meals on wheels. Those people who received the meals loved having a positive message to go along with their dinner!
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items? The youth in our church walk around on Sunday morning, before and after our two worship services carrying giant soup pot and ladles asking people for donations.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share? We included some of our younger youth this year in our Souper Bowl collection and it was very sweet to see some of our older youth including them in the process and answering their questions.
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.We donate to Boyertown Multi-service - a local non-profit social service agency in our city that provides case management, meals on wheels, a community food pantry, energy assistance programs, a senior center, and much more.
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? To Good Shepherd, participating in the Souper Bowl is a way to amp up our regular support to Boyertown Multi-service. We collect for their food pantry all year long because Multi-service is such a great organization - the Souper Bowl of Caring not only allows us to provide more food but much needed financial assistance. As a church, Christ calls us to reach out to those in need and the Souper Bowl is a ways for us to do just that.
What does it mean to you?Of course I feel as if participating in the Souper Bowl helps us to live out the message of Christ, but I also think it's important to empower our youth to make a difference and take the lead in service events. Souper Bowl is youth led in our church and that's really important to me.
