Thank you for engaging the youth to be next generation leaders.
How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring? We received a flyer about Souper Bowl of Caring in the mail at the church.
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team? The involvement of youth was a deciding factor.
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? Our youth lead worship on Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday, sharing information about Souper Bowl of Caring and the good work that is accomplished by so many people across the nation. They collect money, food, and other items that go toward helping people in need.
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items? The congregation is most generous and they support the activities of our youth. Usually our fundraising is within the congregation, but we have also held community-wide food drives for the food pantry.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share? This past year (2016) we kept with the football theme of Super Bowl and marked yard lines down the center aisle of the church. We asked everyone to donate cans of soup and our goal was to line up the cans from the back door of the sanctuary up to the altar. Two hundred and fifty seven cans were lined up down the aisle from one end to the other. We achieved our goal!
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.The Manson Food Pantry, ELCA Disaster Relief, the Ronald McDonald House, Blank Children's Hospital, ELCA Good Gifts (World Hunger), and the Salvation Army. We usually present a few ideas to the youth and ask for their input also and then as a group, we decide what charities we will support for that particular year.
Are there any resources you feel Souper Bowl of Caring could develop to enhance your collection?Since our youth always lead worship on Souper Bowl of Caring, any resources such as new skits, worship ideas, etc. is helpful. It is always nice to read about what other groups are doing - a sharing of ideas.
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? The youth (and adults) work hard together to gather food, money, and other resources that are donated to the various causes we have selected over the years. Souper Bowl of Caring gives the youth an opportunity to do something for people in need, both in our community and beyond.
What does it mean to you?Between the parishes I have served, I have been involved with Souper Bowl of Caring for almost 15 years. It gives congregations and especially our young people a way to participate in caring for others through whatever worthy causes we select. Together, we are able to accomplish so much across the nation each year.
