Thank you for helping us tackle hunger!
How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring?Originally through our diocesan Youth Ministry Office staff
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team?We were excited about being part of a larger effort to assist those in need and especially excited about the fact that Souper Bowl of Caring allowed us to participate and shared resources with us, YET STILL allowed us the choice of how to make that happen and WHO would benefit from our efforts LOCALLY!
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement?Youth and families help collect donations after all Masses at all the exits on Souper Bowl Sunday. We use large soup pots, which are divided - with the 2 teams playing in the Super Bowl. Parishioners make donations [we encourage "if everyone gave just $1.00, just think of the difference we could make for those in need!"] Our families then help assist the organization we give money to, at a later date.
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items?Promoting as much as possible through our social media and parish information pages
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share?"Helping Hands Gleaning Ministry" the non-profit who our donations go to...was able to purchase a pallet jack...something that been on their "wish list" for a long time!!
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.WE are blessed to donate our proceeds to "Helping Hands Gleaning Ministry" - a non-profit organization which connects suppliers and growers of food to food banks and food pantries in north Texas. We are also able to be part of the organizations ongoing efforts by participating in their "Yam Jam" a "gleaning" event, in which we go out to east Texas and "glean" sweet potatoes left in the field and load them in pick-ups for transporting to various food banks.
Are there any resources you feel Souper Bowl of Caring could develop to enhance your collection? You guys do a great job! And your presence on local media outlets, in conjunction with local grocery store partnership, gives us an added boost - promoting our efforts indirectly...helps with the BRANDING of the event!
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? Our community is "Blessed to be a blessing" for others! We strive to answer our baptismal call to "serve others" any chance we get! Souper Bowl of Caring allows another avenue to answer that call!
What does it mean to you?Souper Bowl of Caring is a chance for me to enable youth and adults to think beyond their own existence and take steps to make change in their own community and beyond!!
