This year's Souper Bowl of Caring annual campaign kicked off Monday, January 14th with a goal to collect more than $10 million in cash and food items for hunger-relief charities across the United States. Souper Cities in Texas including Austin, Houston and North Texas are uniting together to collect $5 million towards the national goal with support from grocery partners: Albertsons, Central Market, H-E-B, Kroger, Market Street, Mi Tienda, Randalls and Tom Thumb stores throughout the state. Each participating grocery retailer offers shoppers pre-packaged groceries to purchase or the opportunity to give a cash donation at the register. Texas television, radio, print and outdoor media partners are also encouraging the public to conduct their own food drive through Souper Bowl of Caring. Early collections are already being reported and will continue to add towards the national total through Super Bowl LIII Sunday, February 3rd, 2019.
Food banks have seen an increased need this year and are relying on the public's help to replenish funds, restock shelves and assist with distribution by volunteers. With three weeks left to go until the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams, participants are encouraged to challenge other youth groups, businesses and individuals to give generously with 100% of donations going to a hunger-relief charity of their group's choice.
"During the next three weeks, we can make a significant impact," said Alison Reese, Executive Director of Souper Bowl of Caring. "Souper Bowl of Caring is a great opportunity to ensure our most vulnerable have food on their table. Even the smallest donation will go a long way to help those with the greatest need."
