About this Collection
Austin Jewish Academy's Algebra and Geometry students in 7th and 8th grade participated in a Project Based Learning activity, where students used STEM skills to create, design, and build Canstruction shapes out of cans. Donations were received by the rabbis from four synagogues in Austin and donations were also collected from relatives, neighbors, and friends. Teams of two or three middle school students each worked with an elementary class to collect donations and then to build the Canstruction shapes on January 30th and 31st, 2019. The Canstruction shapes were on display in different locations on our campus for two weeks. Students learned about ratios and proportions, design on 3D building, and how to teach and lead younger students to help with the Canstruction building. AJA students were able to collect over 3000 cans to build seven different designs!
